What this tutorial covers
Timer 5.0 added a race builder for qualifiers and single- or double-elimination tournaments. This tutorial follows racers from seeded qualifier groups through advancing bracket rounds, including result submission and correction of an invalid lap.
The layout shown is from a Timer 5 beta-era build. Current terminology and controls may differ, but the event-planning concepts remain applicable.
Plan the event first
- Create or import the racers and assign the channels they will use.
- Decide the group size, race type, qualifying rule, and number of racers who advance.
- Save the current workspace before asking the builder to generate new groups.
- Confirm how your event treats the holeshot, incomplete races, ties, and corrected laps.
- Run a small test event before using the bracket at a live race.
Build qualifiers and an elimination bracket
- Build the qualifier groups.
Choose the racers or source group, select the qualifier race type, and generate groups. Review every assignment because the recorded builder replaces the current groups.
- Adjust racers and channels.
Drag racers between groups, remove or add entries, and confirm each channel before starting the heat.
- Run and submit each qualifier.
Start the selected group, finish the race, review its detections, correct only demonstrably invalid data, and submit the result so the global ranking updates.
- Select the advancing racers.
Use the completed qualifier ranking and your published event rule to decide who enters the tournament. Remove racers who did not qualify before building the bracket.
- Choose single or double elimination.
Single elimination removes a racer after one losing result. Double elimination adds a losers path and normally gives a racer a second chance.
- Complete feeder groups in order.
Future groups contain placeholders until earlier results are submitted. Run an unlocked group, submit it, and verify that the correct racers propagate before continuing.
- Audit the final bracket.
Check winners, eliminated racers, and the final podium against the submitted race histories before announcing the result.
Building a race can overwrite the current groups.
Save or export the workspace first. A bracket also depends on submitted upstream results, so do not edit a completed heat casually after later rounds have been populated.

In single elimination, one loss removes a racer. The builder seeds faster qualifiers against slower qualifiers, and the top racers from a completed group advance while the others are eliminated. Later groups are placeholders and cannot run until their feeder results are available.

Double elimination has a winners path and a losers path, shown with different colors. A racer gets another opportunity after the first loss, so the tournament contains more groups and takes longer. Racers who advance from a losers group continue while the bottom finishers are eliminated.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between single and double elimination?
In the workflow shown, single elimination removes a racer after one losing result. Double elimination routes the first loss into a losers bracket, creating more races and a second opportunity.
Why can I not start a later bracket group?
Its racers may still be placeholders. Submit all required feeder groups and verify that their advancing racers have propagated.
Does the holeshot count as one of three consecutive laps?
It does not in the three-consecutive-lap example shown. Confirm the exact rule in the race type selected for your event.
Can I correct a bad lap after a heat?
The recorded app supports reviewing and editing a result before submission. Make corrections only from clear timing evidence, document them, and recheck any downstream bracket affected by a later change.
How should I protect an existing event setup?
Save the workspace before generating qualifiers or brackets, because the builder shown in the video replaces the current groups.
